2. The Monkey Score browser extension
Monkey Score is available for Safari (via the Mac App Store) and for Chrome, Edge and Firefox. All versions work the same way; this section applies to all of them.
Where the extension works
The extension is only active on these websites: claude.ai, chatgpt.com and gemini.google.com. It reads nothing on any other website.
What is processed locally there
- Reading behaviour: which sections of an AI answer are visible for how long and how many words they contain. From this, the extension estimates whether an answer was read, skimmed or only scrolled through.
- Your prompts: when you send a prompt, the text is briefly checked for certain words (e.g. “why”, “is that right”, “ok”) to recognise the type of your response. The text itself is discarded immediately afterwards.
- Signals: whether an answer was copied, a prompt was pasted instead of typed, or an earlier answer was read again.
What is stored
For each interaction, the extension stores only: the date (without time), the name of the AI (e.g. “Claude”), the recognised categories, a score and yes/no signals. For the game, there are also counters: the number of your golden bananas, how many you received today and the most recently recognised type of response. No text, no content, no chat addresses.
The data is kept in your browser's local storage on your device. We have no access to it. It is not synchronised, neither via iCloud nor via a Google, Microsoft or Firefox account.
Retention and deletion
The extension automatically deletes data older than 90 days. Via “Delete all my data” (ⓘ in the extension window) you can delete everything immediately at any time.
Legal basis
The processing is necessary to provide the function you installed (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Storing data on your device is strictly necessary for this service, which you have expressly requested (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG).
Purpose
The sole purpose is to show you your own Monkey Score: how much you think for yourself when working with AI chats. The data is not used for advertising, profiling by us or any other purpose.
Recipients and transfers to third countries
There are no recipients. The extension sends no data to us, to Apple, Google, Microsoft or Mozilla, to the providers of the AI services or to any other third party, and transfers nothing to countries outside the EU.
No automated decision-making
The Monkey Score is feedback for you only. There is no automated decision that produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you (Art. 22 GDPR).
Data about other people
If your prompts contain information about other people, it is likewise only analysed locally at the moment of sending and is not stored.
Voluntary use
Use is voluntary. The processing described is necessary for Monkey Score to work; without it, the extension cannot show a score. You can disable or remove the extension at any time in your browser settings under “Extensions”.
Security
Since no data leaves your device, there are no risks from transmission or third-party servers. The stored figures are protected by the security mechanisms of your operating system and browser; each extension can only access its own storage.
3. App Store and browser stores
The Safari version is sold via Apple's App Store. Apple handles purchase, payment, download and updates under its own responsibility. We only receive aggregated sales figures from Apple, no names or payment details. The app contains no crash or usage analytics tools. If you have agreed in macOS to “share with app developers”, Apple may provide us with crash reports that cannot be linked to you; you can turn this off in System Settings under “Privacy & Security” → “Analytics & Improvements”. For more information, see Apple's privacy policy.
The versions for Chrome, Edge and Firefox are free and offered via the Chrome Web Store (Google), Microsoft Edge Add-ons (Microsoft) and Firefox Add-ons (Mozilla). These providers handle installation and updates under their own responsibility. We only receive aggregated figures from them, such as the number of installations, and no information about you. The privacy policies of Google, Microsoft and Mozilla apply.
Donation link (“Buy me a lemonade”)
The Chrome, Edge and Firefox versions contain a link to our donation page on Buy Me a Coffee. The extension itself sends nothing. Only when you click the link does the Buy Me a Coffee page open (Publisherr Inc., USA); from then on, their privacy policy applies. Payment is processed by Stripe. If you donate, we receive the information you provide there (e.g. name, message, amount and, where applicable, your email address) in order to allocate the donation and keep our accounts (Art. 6(1)(b) and (c) GDPR). We keep this information for as long as tax retention obligations require. Data is transferred to the USA in this process.
4. This website
Hosting and server log files
This website is hosted by united-domains AG, Gautinger Straße 10, 82319 Starnberg, Germany. When you visit it, the server automatically stores technically necessary information (IP address, date and time, page visited, browser). This serves the secure operation of the website (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer needed for this purpose. A data processing agreement with the host is in place (Art. 28 GDPR).
Cookies and tracking
This website uses no cookies, no analytics tools and no embedded third-party content.
5. Contact by email
If you write to us, we process your email address and your message to handle your request (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR). We delete the message once it has been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations apply.
6. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21). Since the extension's data is only on your device, you can view and delete it there yourself; we have no data about your use.
You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is: Sächsische Datenschutz- und Transparenzbeauftragte, Maternistraße 17, 01067 Dresden, Germany, www.datenschutz.sachsen.de.
7. Changes
If the functionality of Monkey Score changes, we will update this policy. The version published here applies.
